Installation starts well before anyone turns their display on. Getting on the roof while the weather is dry and mild is safer, faster and produces cleaner work — clips seat properly, wire lays flat, and nobody is fighting ice at the gutter edge.
Your lights go up on a timer and stay dark until you want them. Most Treasure Valley homeowners flip on at Thanksgiving.
By early December the calendar is largely committed and the weather has usually turned. We still take December work when we can fit it, but options narrow and some rooflines become genuinely unsafe to work in freezing conditions. If you are reading this in December, call — just expect fewer date choices.
Displays come down in January, weather permitting, and your strands go into labeled storage until next season. You do not climb anything, and nothing ends up tangled in a garage tote.
The valley runs mild through much of October and then turns quickly. Once there is ice on north-facing shingles, roof work slows down and some pitches come off the table entirely. Every year the homeowners who are happiest with their display are the ones whose install happened before that switch flipped.
