What actually gets measured

When we walk a property, we are building a materials list and a labor estimate at the same time. Everything on the list below moves the number.

• Linear feet of roofline you want lit, front only or wrapped around
• Number of stories and roof pitch, which decides ladder work versus lift work
• Peaks, dormers and secondary rooflines, which each add setup time
• Trees wrapped, priced per tree by trunk size and how high you go
• Columns, railings, fence lines, wreaths and walkway accents
• Power access — how many outlets are usable and whether timers need staging

Why a first season costs more than the second

The first year on a home includes measuring every run and cutting custom strands to fit it. Those strands are yours; they come down in January, get stored, and go back up the following season on a house we have already mapped. That is why repeat displays usually land below the first-year figure for the exact same look.

What a complete quote should already include

Compare bids on what is bundled, not just the total. Ours is all-in, and any quote worth comparing should be clear about each of these.

Where homeowners get the most for their money

Light what the street sees. On most Treasure Valley homes the front roofline, the garage line and the entry carry the display. Wrapping the back of the house is rarely worth the cost.

Then add depth low to the ground. One or two wrapped trees, lit columns or a fence line read as a much bigger display than pushing roofline onto a second story — and cost less to do.
